Purples, Greens & Yellows

"Purple Loosestrife Abounds"

22x28", oil on canvas

This is the largest plein air painting I have ever done. Purple loosestrife is a classic fixture along the Susquehanna river. The greens, yellows, and purples make for a wonderful, natural landscape design. Thrilled this piece has found a home in the Susquehanna Valley.

Covered Bridge Classic

"Wading by Red Bridge"
(Yellow Breeches, Messiah College, Grantham, PA)

oil, 9x12"

This proved to be a cool spot on one of the hottest days of summer. While plein air painting, bold brush strokes and bright colors were chosen to reflect the heat of the day juxtaposed with the exuberance of many people dashing in and out of the creek.

Plein Air Pair from Gettysburg

"Top of Pennsylvania Monument"
oil on masonite, 9x12"

"Many Monuments" (Gettysburg)
oil on Masonite, 9x12"

Much attention is given to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania during July and the summer months. It was a chilly, quiet, and thoughtful morning when these paintings were begun.

Winter Inspiration

"5 Cardinals"
oil, 8x10

While many tire of the snow and cold, I still find inspiration in winter weather and snow-filled views. Careful examination yields colorful reflections in the snow, ripe for painting. Birds and winter animals abound. So glad someone else felt the same way and found a home for this little painting.

A Special Show: "From Our Travels"

In the late Fall 2014, my mother-in-law, artist and historian, Justine K. Landis, and I exhibited together at the handsome Blue Moon Restaurant in York. It was a first for us to have an exhibit together. We displayed over 20 works done mainly on location from our trips to Europe and the east and west coasts of the USA. Thus, the show was called:  "From our Travels".

Large Farm Painting

"Peaceful Farm View"
12x24", oil on masonite board

This painting was done on location at a lovely farm near Lewisberry and was rather challenging particularly for plein air painting due to its fairly large size. I was glad to be able to exhibit it recently in the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters (SVPAP) http://susquehannavalleypleinairpainters.blogspot.com/ group show at Carlisle Arts Learning Center.
